Keeping Your Guests Entertained with Baby Shower Games
If you have the honor and pleasure of hosting a baby shower for your friend or family member, then you are probably wondering what it takes to have a successful party. Besides providing scrumptious food, tasty drinks, and fun baby shower favors, you will want to make sure that your guests are properly entertained. Here are some suggestions for great games that you may decide to play at your baby shower event:
1. What’s In The Diaper? Take three diapers, open them up and lay them on a table. Then take three jars of baby food (for example, peas, carrots, pears, sweet potatoes, apple sauce, chicken, etc.) and open them. Place a couple of spoonfuls of the contents of one jar into one diaper, then some spoonfuls of the next jar into the next diaper and so on. Then take 3 index cards and label each card Diaper #1, Diaper #2, or Diaper #3 and place a card in front of each diaper. Along with some pens or pencils, place the remaining index cards on the table. Invite your guests to take a blank index card and write down their guess of what is in each diaper. It’ll be a sight to see as your guests diligently inspects each diaper with their eyes, or even their noses. Each guest then writes on their index card what they think is in each diaper and whomever has the most correct answers wins. If there is a tie, then just randomly select a card from those cards that were tied.
2. What Did You Say? As each guest arrives at the party, hand them 5 clothes pins and have them affix those pins to their shirts or jackets. Then inform them that whenever they hear another guest say the word “baby” they can immediately request a pin from that guest. Whoever collects the most baby shower clothes pins at the end of the party wins a prize.
3. Baby Shower Bingo. Liven up one of the longest (and to some, the most boring) part of the shower — the gift opening — by having your guests play a game of bingo as they watch the mother-to-be open up the gifts. First, make enough bingo cards for all your guests. Sketch a table with 5 rows and 5 columns. Within each box, indicate some type of gift that will most likely be opened, such as blankets, diapers, onesies, shoes, socks, high chair, playpen, bottles, etc. Each time there’s a match on her card with a gift that is opened, the guest should mark an X through the box. And like in the traditional bingo game, whomever gets a straight line of 5 boxes across, down or diagonally wins the baby shower bingo. In the case of a tie, then randomly pick one of the cards that were tied. (AJG072109-AMA)
