Appetizers Without Worry
Planning to have a party for a special occasion or holiday? Terrific! Have you decided what to feed your guests? You can spend a large part of your budget on food, or you can keep it simple. Whatever sounds best to you, your guests can leave happy and contented with a full belly of delicious food.
You can host a sit down dinner or you can plan a potluck or just serve finger foods. The trick with whatever plan you decide to go with is balancing the amount of work you need to do and how much time you want to be able to enjoy the party. Most hosts will agree that it is no fun to invite lots of people over and then spend the entire time cooking and serving. Everyone wants time to visit with his or her guests.
One of the ways to maximize your time with your guests is prepare early. Do not start at the crack of dawn… start a day or two before the big event. Appetizers can be made and displayed on platters to be wrapped in saran wrap and refrigerated, or they can be put in large Tupperware containers. For a dinner party, plan for a large entrée like a turkey or roast that can sit out for a little while before serving, freeing up oven time for last minute items.
Keep your oven hot when your guests arrive for a potluck… some dishes may need a little reheating. If you do not want to do a potluck, consider catering one or two main dishes while you take care of the side dishes. Ask your guests to bring their favorite plate and some cutlery… the table will be fun and colorful and your leftover clean up will be a breeze.
Provide a lot of variety in the dishes you make. You never know if one of your guests will bring someone who only eats vegetarian or only likes meat dishes. Make something for everyone. You can apply this idea to any kind of appetizer recipes, or meal, no matter if it is a multi-course dinner or a wide selection of finger foods.
Even if you have cooked a six course meal, find some great easy party appetizers for your guests to nibble before dinner. Hors d’oeuvres will help get the party mood started and help start everyone talking. It is much more relaxing to catch up with each other while munching a little something.
Help your guests socialize by forming conversational groupings with your furniture. You can place appetizers on the coffee table and the buffet to encourage groups to form. Food draws people, so they will tend to congregate near the foods they like. Keep your guests happy by providing plenty of food and beverages and your party will be a rousing success by everyone’s account.
With proper planning, your event should run smoothly. No muss, no fuss. You can relax and enjoy your guests and the great food. Taking the time to prepare ahead of time is well worth the trouble and effort.
