You Can Learn A Lot From Gift Registries
Buying a gift off of a registry can really open your eyes. Take baby showers for instance, you enter all the information online, bring up the registry list, and as you are reading through it you start to wonder if you really have the right one or not. You double check, and sure enough, you located the one you were looking for.
Some things simply do not add up initially. You begin to see what sort of life they are expecting with their newborn. You start to know more about what they really value in life. This expecting mother does not seem on paper as though this is the same woman you have known forever.
This is a woman who does not style her hair. She will not wear skirts or dresses. She does not own perfume. At the top of her list you see ladybug baby bedding. How well did you know her? Are you sure this is the right registry? You check again and continue.
She is a bargain hunter through and through. She is the original thrift store junkie. The mark up stores use sickens her. There is designer baby bedding on her registry. You wonder all sorts of things about her now. What is her new value system? Will we still be friends? What is the bedding made out of?
Thinking ahead and planning for the future is not her thing, or so you thought. You find convertible baby furniture among the items on her wish list. As you stare at the items before you the picture you had of her in your mind is shattered forever, all because of some shopping.
A gift registry helps you to receive gifts that you will enjoy and use. It also helps to avoid duplicate gifts. It is times like these when you realize that registries do more, they convey values, hopes, aspirations, lifestyle, and much more. It is a reflection of that person, whether they know it or not. All those text messages have nothing on this.
Becoming a mother changes everything. You may have to spend some time getting to know her all over again. She will be full of surprises. Thanks to her registry you have a head start on getting to know the person she is becoming. And you thought registries were glorified wish lists!
