If you are hosting a baby shower, it’s a good idea to have activities planned for your guests. Not only does it keep your guests entertained, but it also keeps the tradition of a baby shower. Traditionally, games are played at a baby shower, and prizes are given out to the winners. Don’t let the word game scare you though…it doesn’t have to be fancy. Just a few simple activities will really set the shower apart and add to the festivities. Below are 4 easy baby shower activities you can do. (You can also find many different baby shower games throughout this site.)
Baby Shower Activities That Will Give Your Guests (and mommy-to-be!) a Good Time:
Guess the Count – fill a bottle with jelly beans or M&M’s. Set the bottle on a table and tell the guests to guess how many there are. Have them write it down on a piece of paper to stay organized. Remember to count the candy before you put it in the bottle! The person closest to the actual number is the winner, and the winner gets a prize. Tip: The prize can be the bottle of candy. Or…you can give the bottle to the mommy-to-be, and get a different prize for the winner.
Variation of the Dirty Game – I like this one because it’s a very easy and simple activity that gets a lot of attention. I would recommend baby food as opposed to candy bars, because if the candy bar sits too long in the diaper it tends to get hard again, and then the diaper is hard to open. Click on the link to read exactly how to do this activity.
The String Game – A great activity because it really gets the mother-to-be involved. Using a roll of string, the guests try to “size” how big mommy’s tummy is just by looking at her. They will cut the string to the size they want, and then the strings are measured around mommy’s tummy. The closest person is the winner. (Obviously, if the mommy-to-be has any issues with being touched on the tummy or ogled, then this activity may not be the best to do at her baby shower.)
Clothes Pin Game – This is one of the best activities to do at a baby shower because it continues on for the duration of the shower. You can read the full directions on how to play by clicking the link. Essentially, there are rules the guests must follow, such as not crossing their legs, and if they “break” that rule and get caught, they have to give up their clothes pin to the person who caught them. The person at the end of the shower with the most clothes pins wins the game.
Baby shower activities don’t have to be long and drawn out, they can be very simple things and you really don’t have to have too many activities. You don’t want the shower to drag on and remember, you still have cake and presents. A good idea is to set up stations for certain activities around the room (the dirty diaper station, the rice station, the bottle station, the string station etc. and then tell the guests to visit the activity station. You can really organize this any way you wish. If you want everyone to participate at the same time or if you want people to participate at their leisure…there is not a right way or a wrong way to do this.
