Great Ideas for the Best Baby Shower Games

Great Ideas for the Best Baby Shower GamesIf you are hosting a baby shower for a friend or a family member, then you are one heck of a good friend and you deserve friend of the year! All joking aside, it’s tough work planning a baby shower. There are so many things that have to be done and organized in order for the special event to run smooth. One of the items on the list of to-do’s is planning the games or activities you will have at the shower. While this may seem like the easiest part, let me assure you it is most certainly not.

You want to make sure the games you choose to have at the baby shower are fun and unique, and that the guests and the mom-to-be will enjoy themselves while they are there. With so many choices when it comes to baby shower games and activities, the task of picking them can seem slightly daunting. Rest assured though, we’ve got you covered. In this post we’ll cover some great ideas for the best baby shower games you can play, and keep your friend of the year status.

Ideas for the Best Baby Shower Games

When it comes to games at a baby shower, one of the most popular and best games is the Dirty Diaper Game. The game itself is pretty simple, and prep time is relatively quick. There are two different ideas of how you could play the game. Below are the instructions and supplies for each version.

Idea 1 – Dirty Diaper Game – Voted Best Baby Shower Game

  • Enough clean diapers for each guest to have their own diaper
  • Either candy bars or baby food jars to be used as the “mess”

The game is simple enough. Pick one diaper to choose as the dirty diaper. Either melt a candy bar in the diaper or pour some baby food into the diaper and close it back it up. Be careful not to put too much in the diaper, because you don’t want it to leak out the side. Once all the guests have arrived, pass out the diapers to each one. The person who opens the diaper with the “mess” inside is the winner!

Idea 2 – Dirty Diaper Game/Activity – Voted Best Baby Shower Game

  • Between 6-8 clean diapers
  • 6-8 different candy bars or 6-8 different baby food jars
  • Paper and pen for the guests to write their answers on (optional)

Just like in the first version, you’ll want to make a mess in the diaper with either a melted candy bar or baby food. (The key to using a candy bar is not microwaving it for too long and don’t close the diaper all the way – what will happen if you do is the candy begins to harden as it cools off and the diaper will end up sticking together.) Instead of making one diaper dirty, make all of the diapers be dirty and place them on a table for the guests to view. Each guests takes a guess at what kind of candy bar or baby food made that mess!

This is where it gets to be completely at your preference – you could have the guests write down their answers and place them in a small bowl next to that diaper (make sure they write their name on the paper, or else you won’t know who guessed what) and then go one diaper at a time through the answers. Keep in mind though, if you do it this way and you are planning to give out prizes to the winners, you will most likely have multiple winners for each diaper. A good prize for this game is the actual candy bar that made the mess. It’s a cute idea, and if you do have more than one winner for each diaper, candy bars are inexpensive so you can buy the extra prizes to have on hand just in case.

My Water Broke Baby Shower Game – Voted Best Game

Great Ideas for the Best Baby Shower Games - My Water Just BrokeI love this game! It’s a lot of fun to play, and watching the guests try as hard as they can to get their water to break is hilarious. It’s a simple game, and it’s even simpler to prep for. The directions are below.

  • Little baby plastic figurines
  • Ice Cube Tray

Put the plastic baby figurines into the ice cube tray. Fill the tray with water and freeze. At the time of the baby shower, give each guest an ice cube, and tell them the person who’s water “breaks” first is the winner! Water breaking means the baby is no longer frozen in the ice cube. There is one rule though – NO BITING! The guests can warm up their ice, blow on it, whatever they want…but no biting the ice to get the baby out. You want the game to last, not be over the minute it started.

There are other ways to play this game as well, but for the sake of keeping things simple, we’ll cover that in a later post.

The Rice Game – Voted Best Game

This game is terribly hard, and it looks like it is so easy! It’s easy to play, and the guests will love to try to outdo the person before them. Unless they have already played this game before, they will have no idea what they have in store.

  • Box of little safety pins
  • Bag of uncooked rice
  • Blindfold

Mix the safety pins in with the bag of rice in a bowl. Blindfold the guest who’s turn it is. Time them – give them each about 30 seconds to see how many safety pins they can get in that time frame. The person who fishes out the most safety pins is the winner!

This is a good game to set up a station for. You may want to set up  a few game stations, depending on what games you decide to play. That way the guests won’t get too bored while they are waiting for their turn.

Hopefully these gave you some great ideas for the best baby shower games you could play. Throw in some printable games as well and you’ve got yourself a recipe for a great baby shower!
