How to Survive Hosting a Baby Shower

Congratulations! Your best friend just announced that she’s going to have a mini version of herself running around while you get to be the cool aunt that spoils her. As the adrenaline starts to fade, you will start to realize that you have an incredible un-envied task to start organizing a baby shower.

It’s okay – you can stop biting your nails now. No matter what your nerves may be telling you, this isn’t as impossible a task as it may seem right now. In fact, with proper planning, you should be able to pull it off magnificently.

Set the Date & Send out the Invites

The very first thing you need to do is set a date that would suit all your girlfriends. Make sure that all the people important to the mother-to-be are there to share in her happiness. Once the date has been set, start sending out invites to them. While a phone call may be sufficient, tradition calls for written invites. In fact, they are much more personal and allow you to be much more creative. E-vites are another new trend coming up which give you flexibility in design without the postage.

Select a Theme

This is one of the best parts of setting a theme for a baby shower. While it isn’t necessary, it brings an amazing ambiance to the party. Even if you don’t have a theme, try to stick to a particular type of decor which will be appropriate to celebrate an adorable little baby.

Set the Menu

Hell hath no fury like guests who didn’t like the menu. The menu has always been a bone of contention at every event and can be the one factor that can make or break the party. Finger foods are a popular choice but can be tricky if not done right.
If you’re taking care of the food on your own, try to prepare some that don’t require too much preparation (you don’t want all your time to be consumed by the kitchen when there is so much to be done). Pot luck is always great and doesn’t put too much stress on the host either.

What to Drink?

This conundrum is something that is always a struggle to untie. Will the mommy-to-be dabble in a cocktail or will it be a completely dry party? Champagne is always a good idea for the event and those who aren’t going to consume alcohol can mix with seltzer.

Baby Shower Gifts

While opening the gifts is the most exciting part for a baby shower, you need to have a game for the party. Ignore the collective groans of the naysayers. There is no reason a baby shower game cannot be fun. One cool activity is to set up a suggestion or name jar where everyone drops in a heartfelt message to the baby, advice for the mother and name suggestions.

Give Yourself a Pat on the Back

Congratulations! You just pulled off the most amazing baby shower ever, you awesome person you! Remember to have lots of fun at the event. Just because you’re the host doesn’t mean you have to be on your toes at all times. The mommy will want to share this joyful time with you. So start making memories.
